Fire rescue man, 70, badly hurt

An elderly man is being treated for burns after being rescued from a house fire in West Yorkshire.

The 70-year-old man was in the property on Trueman Avenue in Heckmondwike when fire and rescue crews arrived shortly before 1000 GMT on Wednesday.

He was taken to the specialist burns unit at Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield with serious injuries.

West Yorkshire Police said detectives were investigating the cause of the fire at the house.
